Works on Sansung Galaxy S I9000 in Linux

Nice to have a Sansung Galaxy S I9000 this week, as some user said, this adds  me “to the glory of Android”

So far, a list of satisfied curiosities are:

Installation: ssh connect/ftp, workpress, sugarsync, unit converter, realCalc etc

Tested: connection with WI FI (with or with out password), bluetooth, GPS not work offline Navigton comes with Android 2.2, it can cache maps and works offline

Connect to PC using USB, this is simple,

Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debuggings (selected or ticked)

Set­tings – About phone – USB set­tings -> Mass Storage or Ask on connection (for Android 2.1).

Set­tings – Wireless and Network – USB set­tings- > Mass Storage or Ask on connection (for Android 2.2)

Uninstall applications without Adroid market

Settings -> Applications -> Manage Application

Tap on one to delete, in the pop up windows, select uninstall

Firmware upgrade from Android 2.1 to Android 2.2 , I just download Kies from Samsung and installed at a window PC and upgraded there. The most pleased fathure after upgrade is the navigton. Navigaton can cache maps (Australian maps ~500MB) to sd card. The GPS navigation is alive without internet connection!! The remaining question how to download maps for other countries???

Two top to-dos

• connect to VPN to access email at work place (SSL VPN clients for Linux or windows works). got error “Unrecognised Server Name, check server name”
• The Navigation software NAVIGON can cache maps at SD card, as result, this GPS navigation can be used without internet connection. However, It only cached Australian maps. is there way to download maps for other countries?
